Man Kills Wife, Self as 2 Children Play

A Tarzana man fatally shot his wife in the head and then killed himself while their daughter and another child played video games in a bedroom, Los Angeles police reported Thursday.

Gabor Kernyansky, 35, a free- lance makeup artist, was pronounced dead shortly after the shooting Wednesday night in an apartment in the 5500 block of Lindley Avenue. Elizabeth Kernyansky, 35, died a short time later at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, Lt. Bill Gaida said.

Police said the couple was visiting a friend’s apartment when they began arguing. The couple told their 8-year-old daughter and their friend’s 10-year-old son to play with video games during the argument. The children and witnesses told police that they heard two shots. The couple’s child was placed in custody of the county Department of Children’s Services.
