Lost-Pet Notices Should Be Legal
An important exception is needed to the new law prohibiting the posting of notices on public property (Jan. 2) such as power poles and light poles: lost-pet notices.
A missing cat, dog, parrot or other non-human family member is a feeling being in a potentially desperate situation. A dozen neatly made photocopied posters with a description and a phone number can be an effective means of reuniting a lost pet and its family. For many low-income folks it is the only potentially effective means of making a lost-pet announcement.
I hope the City Council will write into the statute an explicit missing-pet waiver.
