Knight-Ridder Inc.: The communications company said improvements at its Miami Herald newspaper and lower newsprint prices helped boost 1989 net income to $247.2 million, up 58% from 1988. Revenue rose 9% to $2.3 billion. Results for 1989 included gains of $66.9 million on the sale of eight television stations and $48.6 million on the sale of the Pasadena Star News.
