CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : ELK GROVE : No One Injured as 14 Train Cars Derail

Fourteen cars of a southbound Southern Pacific freight train derailed in this suburb south of Sacramento, scattering lumber and debris, but no one was reported hurt. Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies said one of the derailed cars contained fertilizer chemicals, but it did not leak. At least three homes were evacuated as a precaution. Cause of the derailment was under investigation.
