CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN FRANCISCO : Crack Dealer Gets 35 Years in Prison

A man described by police as the biggest crack cocaine dealer in Oakland was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison. Darryl (Little D) Reed, 21, was convicted by a U.S. District Court jury of manufacturing and possessing with intent to distribute 28 pounds of crack, and of possessing with intent to distribute 15.4 pounds of powdered cocaine. Police estimated the drugs’ street value at $3 million. Reed was sentenced here by U.S. District Judge Lowell Jensen, who chose a term midway between the 40 years recommended by prosecutors an the 30 years proposed by the defense. He also imposed a $50,000 fine.
