Police to Start Night Patrols in Gang Area
- Share via
Los Angeles police will walk foot beats each night, beginning tonight, in a North Hollywood area known for gang activity.
A group of six to eight officers, working overtime, will patrol an area near Sherman Way and Vineland Avenue from about 5 p.m. until about 11 p.m., Lt. Stuart Maislin said. Police would not disclose how long the program will be in effect.
Maislin said police will work with community groups and other city departments to paint over graffiti in the area.
The patrols, part of a pilot program approved by the Los Angeles City Council in September, follow a similar program started in September in a Sepulveda neighborhood known for drug dealing, Maislin said.
