NAMES IN THE NEWS : Turner Touts Children’s Show

ATLANTA — Ted Turner says his broadcasting empire is the first to develop what he called socially redeeming animation programming in the 1990s.
In a speech Monday to the Atlanta chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Turner said Turner Broadcasting System is developing an animated children’s show, “Captain Planet and the Planeteers.”
He called it the first animated programming that “truly is socially redeeming and develops a sense of purpose, primarily the environment.”
