A retired police officer’s son pleaded innocent Tuesday to murdering his grandfather in Lemon Grove.
Michael Lopez, 22, was ordered held in County Jail on $200,000 bail.
His father, retired San Diego police sergeant Manny Lopez, appeared at the arraignment in San Diego Municipal Court. Manny Lopez had assisted sheriff’s deputies in locating his son at a La Mesa apartment.
The victim is the defendant’s maternal grandfather, 63-year-old Bruce Corey, who was found Jan. 4 in his garage by his wife, Ruth. Corey had been beaten and suffered multiple slash wounds.
Judge Timothy Tower scheduled a Jan. 29 preliminary hearing.
