More than 300 horses, 60 flower-bedecked floats and 22 marching bands will take to the streets of Pasadena on Monday in the 101st Tournament of Roses Parade.
This year’s procession is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of spectators along the route and another 350 million television viewers around the world.
The parade theme, “A World of Harmony,” will be reflected in the floats, some of them 70 and 80 feet long. They include a giant pie with escaping blackbirds representing “Sing a Song of Sixpence,” a gathering of sea creatures to express “Sound Waves” and musical amphibians jamming to “Rock Around the Croc.”
Sen. John Glenn (D-Ohio), a former astronaut and the first American to orbit the earth, will be grand marshal.
The two-hour event begins at 8:10 a.m. at Orange Grove and Del Mar boulevards, proceeds east along Colorado Boulevard to Sierra Madre Boulevard and ends at Paloma Street.
Spectators can stake out spots along the parade route starting after noon Sunday.
Parking is available at public lots, at the Plaza Pasadena shopping mall in the 200 block of Green Street and on neighborhood streets near the parade route after noon Sunday. Parking fees range from $5 to $25.
