George Hemingway, Colorado’s second-string fullback, was sent home from Miami by Coach Bill McCartney for violating team rules.
McCartney, whose top-ranked Buffaloes meet Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s night, declined to reveal the infraction.
Hemingway, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound junior who played at Colton High, was the backup to senior Erich Kissick. He actually carried the ball four more times than Kissick during the regular season (48-44) and slightly outgained the starter (229-214).
Hemingway’s 229 yards ranked as the fourth-best rushing figure on the team. He also caught five passes for 50 yards.
