The student council at Washington Elementary School in San Gabriel has donated $500 of its candy drive money to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, the agency said.
Washington School adviser Ryan Laughy said the students sold candy and holiday gift-wrap and earned about $5,000 to buy a video camera and fitness equipment for their playground. Two days after the San Francisco Bay Area’s Oct. 17 earthquake, the student council decided to donate 10% of the profits to help victims of the disaster.
