LA PAZ, Bolivia — An air force transport plane crashed in the Bolivian jungle, killing 23 of the 28 people on board including two Americans, the air force said today.
The service identified the Americans as Angela Whilcheard and Janet Edmonsard and said they were among the victims when the C-130 transport plane went down shortly after taking off from the town of Guayaramerin, 375 miles northeast of La Paz, in the Amazon region.
The U.S. Embassy in La Paz had no further information about the two women and it was not known whether they were tourists or residents of Bolivia.
Air force planes are commonly used to transport passengers in remote parts of the interior. The Hercules was bound for Santa Cruz in central Bolivia.
