Royal’s Brown Wins Honor in Volleyball

Wende Brown, a junior middle blocker from Royal High, was selected as the Southern Section 4-A Division volleyball Player of the Year.
Royal seniors Allison Bantel and Michelle Pagan were members of the 4-A first team and Highlander senior Beth Kohs was a second-team selection.
Other 4-A first-team members included Amy Chellevold of Thousand Oaks and Mary Beth Giordano and Torie Sumner of Louisville.
Christy Janssen of Agoura shared player-of-the-year honors in the 3-A, and teammates Noelle Hagenburger and Shannon McAdams were named to the first team.
In the 2-A, La Reina seniors Carolyn Russo and Heather Freeman were selected to the first team as was Andrea Lucadam of L. A. Baptist in the 1-A.
Craig Hampton, a senior midfielder for the Simi Valley High soccer team, was named to the 1989 All-American team selected by the National Soccer Coaches Assn. of America.
