Santa Monica : Demolition Fees Considered

The City Council has directed the city attorney to draft a measure that would levy fees on developers who demolish older, less expensive motels and hotels in the city’s coastal zone.
The fee would be about $8,000 per room demolished. The money would be used to build new affordable lodging with rooms going for about $57 a night.
The state Coastal Commission already imposes such a fee for projects brought before it.
