No Bonus, Strike Halts Venezuela’s Main Port

CARACAS, Venezuela — Workers have started a strike at Venezuela’s main port of La Guaira, 16 miles north of the capital of Caracas, a union spokesman said Wednesday.
“We have paralyzed activity until we get our end-of-year bonus and vacation pay,” said Leonardo Marcano of the Workers Trade Union, which represents the 2,853 workers who began their strike Tuesday. Negotiations on the pay demands were proceeding, a spokeswoman for the port authority said.
