Leonard D. Schaeffer, president and chief executive of Blue Cross of California, was elected to the additional post of chairman of the Woodland Hills-based health insurer.
Schaeffer joined Blue Cross as president in 1986 and spearheaded the company’s rebound from major losses to profitability.
He succeeds as chairman Benjamin Aranda, a Los Angeles Municipal Court judge who resigned to pursue other interests, including a possible campaign for the state Superior Court, Blue Cross said. Aranda had been chairman since 1986.
