World IN BRIEF : ISRAEL : Arab Vigilantes Reported in Nablus

Groups of armed Palestinian activists have begun organized patrols in the West Bank city of Nablus to search for Palestinians they suspect of collaborating with Israel, Arab reporters said. Members of two underground gangs--the Black Panthers and the Red Eagles--have been seen at least twice patrolling alleys of Nablus’ Old City, carrying lists of suspected collaborators and questioning people, the reporters said. The Israeli army has blamed the Red Eagles, loosely affiliated with the Marxist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, for at least nine killings. Palestinians have killed 150 of their fellow Arabs as suspected collaborators during the 23-month Palestinian uprising.
