A Maiden No More: Grande Dam, 48-1, Wins Illinois Stakes

CHICAGO — Grande Dam, a maiden winless in six starts, sprang a 48-1 upset victory in the $60,000 guaranteed Illinois Fillies Stallion Stakes Sunday at Hawthorne Race Course.
The winner, ridden by Eusebio Razo Jr., closed fast in the stretch to score a 2 1/2-length decision over Megan Type, the 2-1 second choice in the race. Wise Lt., a 20-1 shot, held on for third.
Grande Dam, clocked in 1:45 35 over a fast track, paid $98.80, $22 and $8.40. She earned $32,400.
Megan Type paid $4.40 and $4.20. Wise Lt. paid $8.80.
