The Baltimore Orioles will pay the city of Baltimore about $5.1 million for the use of Memorial Stadium, the Baltimore Sun reported.
According to sources familiar with terms of the stadium lease, the city is expected to receive about $3.5 million in rent from the Orioles and about $1.6 million from admission taxes generated by the sale of tickets last season.
The Orioles’ lease payment for 1989 is more than double what the club paid in rent in any year since 1982, when the city and the team negotiated a partnership agreement that ties the Memorial Stadium rent to the Orioles’ profits.
