World IN BRIEF : THE NETHERLANDS : Lubbers Completes Coalition Cabinet

Dutch caretaker Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers completed his new center-left coalition Cabinet, bringing the Netherlands’ Labor Party into government for the first time in eight years. The 14-member Cabinet was to be sworn in by Queen Beatrix on Tuesday, after which Lubbers, a Christian Democrat, is to begin his third consecutive term as the country’s premier. The new government is a coalition between the Christian Democrats under Lubbers and the Labor Party under the leadership of Wim Kok, who will be finance minister in the new administration. The coalition commands an absolute majority of 103 seats.
