Coupon Clippers

Your article on coupon clippers (Oct. 26) would be a real giggle except that coupons and rebates are basically legal corporate marketing scams based on the proposition that only a handful of buyers of a $5 item will go through the pain of applying for a $2 rebate.
Logic tells you that if a sizable percentage of people do apply for rebates, the offer will stop (who is going to sell at a loss?) or, the item is still profitable at $3, and that should be the true selling price.
