ATLANTA — Daniel Vestal, the unsuccessful moderate candidate for president of the Southern Baptist Convention last June has said he is willing to try again next year.
Vestal said he announced his intention to seek the presidency early “because it is my desire to be open, honest and transparent in all that I do. I do not want to be coy or cunning. I do not want to pretend I won’t be a candidate when I will be.”
Vestal lost the presidency by 2,500 votes, 10,754 to 8,248, to conservative Jerry Vines, pastor of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla.
