New Charge Against Union Carbide: The Indian Supreme Court has agreed to consider a petition alleging Union Carbide Corp. secretly conducted chemical tests on workers at its Bhopal, India, pesticide plant before the 1984 gas leak disaster, according to an order made public. The order, issued by a two-judge bench of India’s highest court, directed that the company, its Indian subsidiary, the central government and the administration of Madhya Pradesh state file responses to the suit within three weeks. No reaction was immediately available from officials of the company or the two governments.
