‘Good Work in Sacramento’

The legislative ethics measure (Part I, Sept. 13) translated, simply means lobbyists will be contributing under the table instead of over the table. As proposed, the constitutional measure to be placed before the voters next June is merely a cynical instrument to assure a huge raise. Once the legislators get it, business as usual.
Impeccable honesty should come with the turf. I do not believe legislators should be rewarded for forsaking shady deals, or their frequently demonstrated incompetence. With a state budget topping $40 billion, our professional politicians rate no more than a “D.”
