Panel Reportedly Probes IRS: A congressional committee probing allegations of favoritism in government purchasing of computers has launched a full-scale investigation into procurement practices at the Internal Revenue Service and its parent agency, the Treasury Department, according to the Baltimore Sun. In a July 24 letter, Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Government Operations Committee, asked the Government Accounting Office to examine procurement practices within the IRS and Treasury Department. Suppliers include International Business Machines Corp. and others.
