HOUSTON — Rep. Mickey Leland (D-Tex.), one of nine Americans who died in a plane crash Aug. 7 while en route to an Ethiopian refugee camp, was buried Thursday under an oak tree in the neighborhood where he was raised.
Leland’s family and close friends held a graveside service. The public was kept out of the northeast Houston cemetery, and Leland, in accordance with his wishes, was buried in a plain pine coffin.
