Aone-block stretch of Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks was closed briefly and about two dozen people were evacuated from businesses after a construction crew broke a natural gas line Tuesday morning, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.
The two-inch gas pipe was broken at 8:45 a.m. at an excavation site in the 14200 block of Ventura Boulevard, said Jim Williamson, department spokesman.
Police closed Ventura Boulevard between Calhoun and Katherine avenues, and employees and customers of two businesses on either side of the construction site were evacuated as a precaution, officials said.
The gas line was capped at 9:40 a.m. by a Southern California Gas Co. crew, Williamson said. There were no injuries.
