Roofing Firms Plan Merger: ACS Holding Co. of Carson and Universal Roofers of Phoenix said they plan to merge their roofing operations, creating the largest roofing contractor in North America. ACS Holding’s Bryant Organization already is the nation’s largest with an estimated $70 million in revenue this year, a spokesman said. Universal was ranked third last year based on 1987 revenue of $46 million by ENR, a weekly construction industry magazine. Merger negotiations are continuing, and the two companies said they hope to close the deal in October.
