ON THE SIDELINES : Dorsett Recuperating From Surgery

DENVER — Denver Broncos running back Tony Dorsett is recuperating today from arthroscopic surgery for a knee injury sustained at training camp that may end his career.
The 35-year-old Dorsett suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a torn lateral cartilage and a partial tear of the medial collateral ligament in his left knee during a non-contact passing drill Thursday.
Dorsett is expected to be released from Denver’s St. Luke’s Hospital early this week, according to Broncos spokesman Jim Saccomano.
Dorsett will require a minimum of about six months’ recovery time, instead of the 12 months usually associated with full-scale knee surgery, Broncos trainer Steve Antonopulos said.
“We anticipate a full recovery,” Antonopulos said. “The doctors are very optimistic. The knee is very tight now.
“He should be fully recovered from the injury, but it remains to be seen about his football career. I don’t know what his plans are. It will be his decision to make.”
