Borwick Beats Barlow in Final, 6-3, 6-4

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Unseeded Neil Borwick outplayed Russel Barlow, 6-3, 6-4, in an all-Australian final to capture the single’s title of the inaugural $25,323 Malaysian Open Challenger tennis tournament Sunday.

In the double’s final, India’s Zeeshan Ali combined with Steve Guy of New Zealand to defeat Denmark’s Peter Flinstsoe and Morten Christensen, 6-4, 6-4.

Youth and Sports Minister Mohamed Najib Razak presented the 21-year-old Borwick with $5,000, while the Zeeshan and Guy shared $1,500.

Borwick made full use of his extensive reach to frustrate the shorter Barlow, who upset the top-seeded Zeeshan and Guy, the No. 4 seed, in earlier rounds.

Borwick, ranked 418th in the world, said his victory was the second and biggest tournament he has won since turning professional two years ago. He also won a satellite tournament in Alabama in April.
