WASHINGTON — Rep. Morris Udall (D-Ariz.) began a monthlong congressional recess today on a honeymoon with his new wife.
Udall’s office announced that the 67-year-old congressman was married to Norma Gilbert in a private ceremony Sunday in the Prayer Room of the Capitol. The couple then left for their honeymoon in the Hamptons on Long Island, N.Y.
Norma Gilbert Udall is a Los Angeles native who has worked as a lobbyist and congressional staff member in the capital for 15 years.
An aide to the congressman said the new Mrs. Udall is keeping her age a secret. “She said she doesn’t want to go through life with her name always appearing in print followed by a comma and her age,” Udall spokesman Erik Barnett said.
Udall’s first wife, Ella, with whom he had six children, died Aug. 13, 1988.
