Commodities Trader Found Hanged After Others Indicted

OAK BROOK, Ill. — A trader on the Chicago Board of Trade was found hanged Friday in his west suburban Chicago home just two days after 46 other traders on Chicago’s two commodities markets were indicted for cheating customers, authorities said.
Michael Sorvillo, 45, was pronounced dead at 2 a.m., Du Page County Coroner Richard Gallinger said.
It was unclear whether Sorvillo was among the 100 traders expected to be indicted in the next phase of the FBI’s Operation Sourmash, a 2 1/2-year undercover investigation that led to racketeering, mail fraud and conspiracy indictments against traders in the board’s soybean and bond pits and the Japanese yen and Swiss franc pits at the Chicago Mercantile exchange.
Sorvillo was not among the 46 traders indicted last week.
Authorities said Sorvillo’s body was found by a friend about 1 a.m. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
