Fresno State, which won the Big West football title last season by going undefeated against conference teams, was chosen unanimously to repeat as champion in a poll of coaches Thursday.
Fresno State went 10-2 overall last season, losing only to Colorado and Oregon State. The Bulldogs defeated Western Michigan in the postseason California Bowl.
San Jose State, which went undefeated in the conference while winning titles in 1986 and 1987 but fell to 4-3 in conference games and 4-8 overall last year, was predicted to finish second.
Cal State Fullerton, 5-6 and 5-2 in 1988, was rated fourth, and Cal State Long Beach, 3-9 and 3-4, sixth.
