WYANDOTTE, Mich. — A car carrying a family of six smashed through a dead-end barrier and landed upside down in the Detroit River, trapping the four children, who died after being rushed to hospitals, authorities said today.
The children’s parents, Lawrence DeLisle, 28, and Susan DeLisle, 32, of Lincoln Park, struggled out of the wreckage of their station wagon and were rescued by two men in a small power boat who threw them life preservers.
Their children, ranging in age from 8 years to 10 months, were pulled from the water alive but all four died within seven hours of the accident at hospitals in Wyandotte and Detroit.
