McGraw Lifts NL Old-Timers Past AL

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Former Philadelphia Phillie reliever Tug McGraw lined a two-run single in the fifth and final inning Monday to give the National League an 8-7 victory over the American League in the eighth annual national old-timers baseball game.
Hal Lanier and Johnny Logan opened the bottom of the fifth with singles, advanced as Ed Kranepool bounced out to short, and scored when McGraw singled against Bobby Shantz.
The American League had taken the lead in the top of the fifth against McGraw when Roy Sievers’ bloop single over second scored Bill (Moose) Skowron.
The hitting stars for the National League were former Chicago Cub Billy Williams, who went 2 for 3 with two runs batted in, and Dick Allen, 2 for 2 with two RBIs.
The American League was led by former Detroit Tiger catcher Bill Freehan and former New York Yankee Phil Linz, each with two RBIs.
