The massacre in Tian An Men Square points out the collective stupidity of Deng Xiaoping and his cronies in Beijing.
The winds of economic reform, unleashed by Deng a decade ago, have as an inevitable byproduct, a yearning for more political freedom. An open economy, in the long term, can only be lubricated by the oil of political freedom. The pro-democracy demonstrators are only a harbinger of things to come in China.
