LONDON — Wildcat walkouts by dockworkers spread today to at least six ports throughout Britain as workers protested a court ruling banning a national strike.
About 2,500 dockworkers have joined in the unofficial action, a spokesman for the Transport and General Workers’ Union said.
The TGWU represents 9,400 dockworkers. Union officials have urged striking workers to go back to work while the union appeals the injunction to the Law Lords, Britain’s highest court.
According to union officials and a spokeswoman for the National Assn. of Port Employers, dockworkers have walked off the job at Liverpool, Bristol, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Garston near Liverpool and Tilbury in London.
