Tony Aliengena, an 11-year-old San Juan Capistrano boy, will climb into the cockpit of a single-engine plane Monday for a planned seven-week flight around the world that could put him in the record books as the youngest pilot to circumnavigate the globe.
The 17,000-mile journey will also be significant because the boy will become the first Westerner in recent memory allowed to pilot a plane across the Soviet Union. Takeoff is scheduled from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport at 10 a.m. Monday. Tony is due back at the same airfield on July 20.
