Syrian troops fought fierce street battles with Iranian-backed militias south of Beirut, killing at least three people. Syria’s Muslim militia allies also clashed with Christian forces across the so-called Green Line that divides Beirut, and three people were wounded, military officials said. The fighting south of Beirut reportedly started when Muslim Hezbollah (Party of God) gunmen attempted to seize truckloads of scarce butane gas at a storage complex in the waterfront district of Ouzai.
