Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings, the National Hockey League’s third-leading scorer this season, was named winner of the Lester B. Pearson Award, which is presented to the outstanding player in a vote by the NHL Players Assn.
Mario Lemieux of the Pittsburgh Penguins, last year’s winner, was runner-up, and Wayne Gretzky of the Kings, a five-time winner, was third.
