Irvine’s Kaplan Seeded Fourth in NCAA Tennis

Mark Kaplan of UC Irvine is seeded fourth in the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. individual championships, which begin today at the University of Georgia.
Kaplan, who is 35-7 this season, will play Paul Mancini of West Virginia in the first round. Mancini is ranked 51st in the nation.
The Anteaters’ Trevor Kronemann and Mike Briggs also will compete. Kronemann, who is 31-15, will play Steve Herdoiza of Northwestern. Briggs, who is 27-12, will play Steve Jung of Nebraska.
In the doubles competition, Briggs and Kronemann will play Jamie Borras and Dave Randall of Mississippi. Kaplan and Richard Lubner will play Jack Salerno and Jeff Neuman of Oklahoma State.
