Westlake Golfers Advance to Regional

Charlie Wi and Jerry Chang of Westlake High advanced to the Southern California regional tournament after each fired a one-over-par 73 Monday in the Southern Section individual golf championship at Canyon Country Club in Palm Springs.
The Westlake pair finished one shot behind Chris Tidland of Placentia Valencia and Kevin Claborn of Brea. Tidland won a playoff for the overall title.
In the 144-player field, Chang, a sophomore, and Wi, a junior, finished in a nine-way tie for third.
Wi and Chang join a group of 22 players from the Southern Section who will play as individuals in the regional tournament June 12 at Bakersfield Country Club.
Newbury Park High qualified to compete in the team competition at Bakersfield by placing second in the Southern Section team tournament last Monday. Taft High qualified for team regional play Thursday by winning the City Section title.
