A woman who escaped from the Las Colinas jail was caught when she returned to claim $10 from jail officials, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.

Mary Lou Nelson, 31, of Spring Valley escaped Monday when she posed as another prisoner, Mary Kay Winberg, 29, who was supposed to be released on her own recognizance. Nelson allegedly changed into Winberg’s clothing and was able to answer personal questions that should have been known only by Winberg, a sheriff’s deputy said.

Nelson, who was in jail for embezzlement, was captured when she returned to the jail to claim $10 owed to Winberg.

Winberg was rebooked for conspiracy and aiding and abetting an escape. Both women could receive additional sentences of two to six years in the escape, said Sgt. Ron Cottingham of the Sheriff’s Department.
