Financial Planner Gets 30 Years: A federal judge has sentenced a financial planner to 30 years in prison and ordered him to pay $12.9 million in restitution for swindling his clients out of untold millions of dollars. “To this day, substantial sums of money remain unaccounted for,” noted U.S. District Judge Stanley Marcus, who sentenced Henry Gherman, 52, to all but five years of the maximum penalty. Gherman, a financial adviser for a group of prominent Miami Beach doctors, fled town last August with $4.4 million in cash. Investigators estimate that Gherman’s clients may have lost more than $15 million, all of it spent by Gherman or his family. Only $3.2 million has been recovered.
