A Santa Monica man was shot by sheriff’s deputies Saturday after he allegedly tried to ram their patrol car near the Sybil Brand Institute for Women in East Los Angeles, the Sheriff’s Department said.
John Sipp, 27, was treated for a minor gunshot wound to the foot and then booked for assault with a deadly weapon after a short pursuit that began when deputies saw Sipp using narcotics in a car in the jail parking lot, Deputy Detta Roberts said. Sipp drove his car into a dead end, then made a U-turn toward the patrol car, prompting deputies to open fire, she said.
