An 80-year-old woman, critically injured when she was struck by an unoccupied automobile at a Tustin bus stop, died at United Western Medical Center-Santa Ana on Saturday, Tustin police reported.
The accident Thursday in the 13800 block of Red Hill Avenue near El Camino Real occurred after Barbara Greland, 45, of Santa Ana left her 1967 Mustang at a Mobile service station to get directions. The car, left idling, slipped into reverse and moved slowly backward, hitting Aletta Streeter, who was sitting on a bus bench.
Tustin Police Officer Bryan Meder said the woman died at 2 p.m. Saturday at the hospital.
Meder said that the car had slipped into reverse, but how it did so is not known. He said the car was shifted into park when the woman got out of the auto.
After the car struck the elderly woman, it continued onto Red Hill Avenue where it hit a northbound vehicle. No one was injured in that collision.
