Friday will be John Hemer’s last day as director of Housing and Economic Development.
Hemer, 44, said he is leaving to become director of real estate for the Los Angeles Redevelopment Agency.
“The opportunity came up,” Hemer said. “In Baldwin Park I had completed all the goals I had set when I came here.
He said during his 7 1/2 years, he has helped add 400 apartments and condominiums and more than 1 million square feet of retail and industrial space.
At the Los Angeles Redevelopment Agency, Hemer will oversee a staff of 30, more than double the number he has been supervising. He will specialize in land appraisals, acquisitions and sales.
Hemer, who handled redevelopment projects for Inglewood and Santa Monica before coming to Baldwin Park in 1981, said he is proud of his role in completing the city’s Puente-Merced project, which features a Vons supermarket and Hilton hotel.
