Prep Baseball Roundup : Rizzo Throws a Two-Hitter but Is Beaten

J.P. Rizzo pitched a complete-game two-hitter Saturday, but Huntington Beach High School committed three errors that led to three unearned runs as Westminster beat the Oilers, 4-1, in a Sunset League baseball game at Westminster.
Brian Stubbs (3-1) allowed six hits, struck out seven and walked two for Westminster. The only run he allowed was on a bases-empty homer by Brian Wright in the second inning.
The Lions took the lead in the fourth, scoring two unearned runs on two errors by Huntington Beach (3-6 in league play).
Westminster (13-6-1, 5-4 in league) increased its lead to 4-1 in the fifth. The first run scored on a wild pitch, the second on a sacrifice fly by Brett Grebe.
In another Sunset League game:
Fountain Valley 16, Marina 10--Mark Dodd had a home run and drove in three runs for the Barons (12-6, 7-2) at Fountain Valley. Fountain Valley scored 10 runs in the second to erase a 3-0 Marina lead. Steve Landcaster had a two-run single in the inning. John Kiel, Steve Montgomery and David Hage each had two RBIs for the Barons.
In the Angelus League:
St. Paul 3, Servite 2 (8 innings)--David Gonzales had a run-scoring single with two outs in the top of the eighth to give St. Paul the lead. Mike Perez (2-3) pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief for the victory. Rob Walker and Geoff Bell each had an RBI single for Servite (9-10-1, 2-6).
Mater Dei 4, Bishop Montgomery 3 (9 innings)--Jason Gill singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to give the Monarchs (16-3, 7-1) the victory. Tony Pena (8-0) pitched three innings in relief.
