The Los Angeles mayor’s office announced two appointments to the city Board of Planning Commissioners and the county Transportation Commission.
Fernando M. Torres-Gil, an associate professor of gerontology and public administration at USC, was appointed to the planning board, and Carole Stevens, a homeowner activist, was named to the transportation panel.
Torres-Gil, 40, recently served as staff director for the House Select Committee on Aging and was a member of the mayor’s L.A. 2000 Committee. His appointment to the panel fills a vacancy created by the resignation of Carmen A. Estrada.
Torres-Gil will help develop programs to “meet the housing and planning needs of our aging population,” Mayor Tom Bradley said in a press release.
Stevens has served as president of the Federation of Hillside and Canyons Assn. and is vice chairwoman of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. She was named to replace Marcia Mednick, whose term recently ended.
“My top priority will be to ensure the rapid extension of a cost-effective, mitigated commuter rail system to serve the people of the San Fernando Valley,” Stevens said.
