‘Nightmare’ Killer Gets Life Sentence

A 20-year-old gang member who posed as horror-movie killer Freddy Krueger was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison without possibility of parole for one killing and three other late-night attacks that terrorized a San Pedro neighborhood last year.
Compton Superior Court Commissioner Anita Rae Shapiro imposed the maximum sentence on Angelo (Cave Man) Regino, who was convicted in January of murdering Johnny Healey of San Pedro and of robbing or attempting to rob three other men in January and February of 1988.
Victims testified that Regino sported a dark fedora like the one worn by Krueger, the killer of the “Nightmare on Elm Street” films. And one man--who was robbed, forced to strip naked and shot at--said that Regino cryptically told him that he was “Freddy.”
